News From the Studio
Updated: May, 2012
From Jack White:
Jack White is an extremely talented and nationally acclaimed American artist. He recently wrote to me:
"First let me say your work is the BEST I've ever seen. Bar none. Love
the dogs and horses. Being a broken down cowboy I especially loved the
horses…. Artists on your level cannot be compared to people who take
pictures. There are so many people who call themselves photographers
when many are on the level of people shooting with a throw away camera.
There are very few photographers whose work can be called exceptional.
You have taken photos to another level. You are at the apex of that
medium."
Thanks Jack!
"Teddy" stopped in for his portrait
"Teddy",
a cute little Pomeranian stopped by the studio with his owner, Karen
Jones to have his portrait made. We had fun with him. Very well behaved!

Trainers Sent From Heaven
Brother Christopher of New Skete Shepherds and author of many books on dog training, had a wonderful interview on ABC's Good Morning America demonstrating some of the amazing training results you can achieve with your dog! You'll love the interview and the book, "The Art of Raising a Puppy" is a must read for all dog owners.
Douglas Vohnoutka, Adirondog Dog Training
I met Douglas Vohnoutka, a trainer in Clifton Park, NY who has a nice approach to dog training. His training facility is Adirondog and is also the President of the Eastern New York Shetland Sheepdog Club.

l be showing a large body of work at the New Skete Monastery's Open
House on June 4th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Looking forward to seeing
you.

We
will be at the Albany Kennel Club's Mothers Day All Breed Conformation,
Obedience and Rally Match on Sunday May 8. We will be offering a free
portrait session in our studio to the lucky winner of our raffle! Hope
we see you there. Here is the link to their web site for more information.
New Skete Shepherds Finished
We photographed the last three dogs, "Basta", "Jarus", and "Lila". Here are a few samples:

Pooch Paparazzi!
I
was in New York City this week and, having some time to kill, spent a
day at the Leroy Street Dog Run photographing whoever came to frolic. I
call this type of candid work "Pooch Paparazzi" and it's really just
for fun. Here are some of my favorites:

More Shepherds
We
photographed four more German Shepherds this week, "Bella", "Esme",
"Kahn" and "Petra" for the New Skete project! Getting close to
finishing the project with three more to go.
Show Time
We
opened an art show at the Spiral Press Cafe in the Northshire
Bookstore, 27 images of dogs and horses. This will be in display until
April 3rd. Stop by if you're in the vicinity and let your friends know.
Shepherds!
We
began photographing the German Shepherds, starting with one of the
finest dogs I have ever seen, "Dux". He is a therapy dog and is as warm
and friendly an animal as you could imagine. We then moved on to "Zoe",
"Jarus", "Xenia" and "Kyra", all great and very beautiful dogs. You
would expect quality animals from a renowned breed like New Skete, but
these are wonderful dogs.
The treat of the day though was little "Namja", a young puppy. She had us all laughing!

We will be busy on this project through the rest of the winter.
2011
We
began the year by meeting with Julia Gates and Brother John of the New
Skete Shepherds breeding program. We brought our leather bound
portfolio and a large print of "Mowgli and Cooper" by way of
introduction to our work.

They
showed us around the breeding area and agreed that we would do some
portraits of their dogs for use in the program. What lovely people!
A Great End to a Great Year!
Thanks
to all of you for making 2010 an exciting year for Leslie and Rick. We
had a great time meeting and working with all of you.

Yorkie
"Cino",
a Yorkie named for Al Pacino appeared today with his owner, Lori. I had
a very soft light working on him and got this very expressive image. To
see this image is to understand why people often see my work as
paintings, rather than examples of fine photography!

A Pair of Huskies
Lyra
and Strider came in today asking to be shot as a pair. The owners,
Suzan and Alan were fantastic at posing these beautiful Huskies.
Sprocket
We
photographed "Sprockett" at the studio this week, a black lab and very
friendly. I rendered the background in yellow to contrast the dog's
head and created this iconic image of the Labrador.

Mowglii and Cooper
One
of our patrons, Barbara Spizzirro invited us to photograph her dogs,
"Mowglii" and" Cooper" at her home in Westchester on our way back from
Florida. Barb is a huge animal lover and has been a wonderful supporter
over the years. Great shoot! Here's one of "Cooper"
